Happy Monday friends! I'm finally feeling a bit better and getting caught up on some seriously back-logged reviews. Normally I wouldn't do a review every week; I like to space them out to about twice per month so the blog isn't consumed by them! But I'm dying to share this shop with you and Lily has been enjoying her Roving Ovine doll since September (I know...) so I really felt I needed to get this out for you all to see!
In August Lily celebrated her 2nd birthday and I was looking for a doll to gift to her. I wanted something handmade and unique because I hoped this doll would stay with her a long time. I also made plans to give all my children (boys too, something I feel very strongly about!) something similar for their 2nd birthday. It's right about that time that kids get the nudge to nurture and Lily was already such a little Mama to her stuffed animals and her new little brother. I loved the idea of finding a special, timeless doll to give her. Maybe she could even give it to her daughter one day. Oh the dreams of a mom :)
After searching Etsy I found a couple simply gorgeous hand-sewn dolly shops, and this week I'm sharing about my favourite: Roving Ovine. I have a second review for a doll that I gave Oli (his "little buddy" as we call him) coming up later.
The dolls at Roving Ovine are so beautifully designed and each one is unique. Laura let me convo with her to choose the fabrics for Lily's doll and I could choose between several hair styles + colours plus outfits to make the doll just like Lil. For example, Lily refuses to wear skirts, so I made sure to choose a doll with leggings, and Lily's hair has a side part, so I went with that hair style. It was so fun to make but seeing the finished product was definitely my favourite!
Compared to the other hand-sewn dolls on Etsy, these dolls are similarly priced, if slightly less. And what gets me is that these dolls are larger than most of the others offered! Lily's doll is substantial (comparable to the IKEA plush dolls with slimmer limbs). I also love that Laura offers dolls from various ethnicities and with various hair textures and styles. Unlike most options at Toys-R-Us that are the same doll face and hair mold, just different colours!
Lily loves her Dolly and I'm eager to buy another if we have a second girl (I haven't seen Roving Ovine make boy dolls).
These dolls are creative, diverse, unique, and timeless. They're handmade ethically and made to order. I'd encourage you to go over there and create one for your little lady! Laura is offering 15% off site wide THIS WEEK ONLY with the code 15PERCENTOFF so get your butts moving!
But of course, one of you will win a FREE hand-sewn, made to order Doll :)

ReplyDeleteMy favourite is: Fabric Doll Rag Doll Blond Girl in Pastel Blue Floral Dress. These dolls are just gorgeous! My only suggestion is that it would be cute to name them (name doesn't have to be carried over by the child, but would be super cute on the etsy store!)

ReplyDeleteIt was hard to choose but I think my favourite doll is the black haired African rag doll with the retro print dress.
