Guys, the day finally came and I got an iPhone! I know, very old news for most of you, but I've had a minimalist flip phone FOREVER. And then when that phone died, a friend gave me his old cell phone. And then Lilygirl bit that phone and the speaker didn't work, so a friend gave me her old Blackberry (don't be fooled, it was from 2009). And then just last week, that phone went for a trip in the laundry machine. And lo and behold, the hubs decided it was time we got me an iPhone. Insert a thousands exclamation points here.
I didn't go with a plan because we did the math and every plan that you sign up for that gives you an iPhone at a "discounted rate" makes you sign a contract for 3-4 years, and then in the end you pay $700-800 for a $400 iPhone and have a plan that is more than we wanted to pay anyway. So we just bought an iPhone outright (the 4, not the 4S or the 5, but I'm THRILLED and it was cheaper), and I continued with my bare bones $30/month plan. It.is.glorious. We figured we didn't need data anyway since I'm almost always at home (where we have free wifi) or somewhere where there is free wifi (a cafe, a friend's house, etc). And the places where I don't have free wifi, well, I won't browse Facebook. Probably not the worst thing in the world :)
Anyway, I'm slowly getting acquainted with my new little phone and would love recommendations on your favourite apps! (free ones only, please!) Here's the ones I have right now:

Friends, I am OBSESSED with Instagram. I'm afraid it may replace my blog and taking pictures of my family with our real camera entirely. It is so easy and fun and QUICK! Please let me know if you have an account so I can add you, and who you follow that I may be interested in. So far I only follow a handful of friends and my favourite bloggers (@DanielleBerkleo, @underthesycamore, @letlovegrow, etc). I'm @EmMorrice if you're interested :)
I also need recommendations of a protective case. My track record with phones is less than stellar. A friend suggested Otterbox. Have you heard of it? And I bought this sweet knit case to keep my phone warm in the cold Montreal winter :)
Oh, and I almost forgot!! The winner of the $20 shop credit to Liz Taylor Handmade is...

If you love music, Soundhound is a great app so when you hear a good tune it'll listen to it, recognize it and tell you the name of the artist, the song, and the album! Google+ is a great app especially for blogging. It'll upload all those pictures you take on your phone including your Instagram photos so that when you blog and you want to add a photo you just do it through your phone and don't have to upload it to your computer or email first! - Checkout 51: new deals each week (ex. $1 off of bread); just snap a pic of your receipt of the items that are a part of the week's deal, and they send you a cheque with your money!

yay! so fun. oh yes instagram is pretty fun. I would much rather have instagram instead of twitter or facebook. check out retail me not (great savings in stores & online), dropbox, and overgram.
ReplyDeleteoh Emily, so excited for you - my husband bought me an iPhone for my birthday and I LOVE it. Instagram is my favorite app, but I also love the Camera+ app (it lets you crop and edit photos, and they turn out amazing) and the PocketBooth app which lets you take several photos and stitch them together so they look like photo booth photos. You can then share on Facebook or email it to yourself. PocketBooth isn't free, unfortunately, but it's still affordable at just $0.99 and if you're into photos it's a fun app to have :)

My iphone lived in an otterbox for 2 years before I made the switch to a lifeproof. LOVED my otterbox, definitely worth the money and I'm pretty sure they're really inexpensive on amazon. Lifeproof is shockproof like the otterbox but is also waterproof.... ! Congrats on your iphone!
