area rug for the living room?

So, I love having a very open space and all hardwood throughout. LOVE it. But can we talk about winter? It's cold. And even though our home is easy to keep at a comfortable temperature (unlike our old, 12 ft ceiling apartment that was c c c cold), our living room needs to be a bit more cozy if we're going to indeed, live in it. When we have church there, with 25 other people, it's uncomfortably hot at times. But then the rest of the week as we're playing blocks, reading, or having tickle parties the bare floors feel cold. The thermostat may say 21 degrees, but it's lacking cozy.

Also, heads up, our living room looks a bit different now. The black and cream chevron pillow on the chair is flipped over and is just cream, the chair is pushed way back into the corner where the foot rest is in this pic, the foot rest now boasts a bright and light blue striped knit blanket that I scored from Salvation Army (you can sort of see it here), and we put one of these chairs in front of the fireplace with a cream knit pillow. Also the pillows on the couch are all gone now and the purple one was replaced with a dark brown velvet one as the other corners are bare. Winter decorating. Or my obsession with change. Whatever.

So my plan was a square area rug, ideally neutral but I would consider bold if it was still neutral colours (grey, pale, or black). Oh, and I didn't want to pay $100 because I'd only use the rug in the 4 coldest months of the year (Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar) and store it the rest of the year. Unicorn? NO! Ikea has something I love. What do you think?
It's under $100, square, bold yet neutral, would fit the themes and style of the room, and did I mention under $100? Area rugs, even poor quality ones (I know with IKEA I can't be assuming the best), are quite expensive. I'm 99% sure this is the rug for our living room. Would love your opinion!

  5. The most important thing to consider is the look of the rug especially if your main purpose for buying a rug is to enhance the look of your living room.
